Did you watch the Grammy Awards last night??

I have mentioned my fondness for Adele here before, but I must confess… it’s more of an OBSESSION!! I LOVE HER!! I was SO EXCITED to hear her sing again after her vocal chord surgery… the anticipation was KILLING me…

And let me tell you, Adele DID NOT DISAPPOINT, she was AMAZING!! I did the BIG UGLY CRY, you know, like those teen girls did for ELVIS and the Beatles back in the day!! You could see how happy she was to be back, genuine JOY, it was AWESOME!! I was SO HAPPY and RELIEVED to hear her BEAUTIFUL voice again, not that I know her… but like I said, it’s an OBSESSION!! Adele’s voice is a GIFT and I am SO HAPPY she is able to share it again!! OH, and she took home 6 GRAMMYS!!

OK, so enough of my weirdness…

Kate FINALLY got her room all cleared out and today is the day…

PAINTING DAY!! I LOVE painting, walls that is… because I have no artistic talents, but painting lets me pretend I am being creative!! I am going to try a paint effect I saw in a magazine where they blended the area between the two colors so it looks like they fade one into the other. Should be interesting, WISH me LUCK!!

OH, and I will be PAINTING while DANCING and SINGING along to my Adele - Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD that Britt got me for Christmas!!

Five things that made my week FABULOUS…

A Coffee Date!

I met my HERO!!MCatherine of Hide A Heart is DEFINETLY one of a kind, and I feel so fortunate to count her among my friends!! I don’t remember exactly where we “met” online, but Monday I FINALLY got to meet her in person!! Brittney and I met her for coffee, she stole Brittney’s heart too! MCatherine is the sweetest, kindest and most inspirational person… she even brought a Hide A Heart for Brittney to celebrate Britt and Ryan’s engagement…I just can’t say enough about MCatherine, I just LOVE her!! She is always so helpful, inspiring and willing to share!! I feel so very blessed to have such a friend!!

It’s a Boy!!

My friend Julie is expecting and they confirmed it’s a BOY!!

I got to see him on the ultrasound!! He will have his hands full with big sisters, Arianna and Morgan!! I had to learn how to give her progesterone injections... that was kind of scary, but the nurse said I did well and Julie didn't scream, so all is well!! Please keep Julie and the lil one in your prayers, the progesterone shots are to hopefully enable her to carry him to term, Arianna and Morgan were both teeny preemies, so we want this one fully baked!!

Enchiladas!

I SERIOUSLY ROCK…

Made enchiladas for dinner Tuesday night!! They were SO YUMMY!! John and Kate couldn’t stop with the compliments… so GOOD and so MANY they didn’t even mind eating them the next night too!!

New Vacuum!

HEAVEN!!LOVING my NEW vacuum!! SERIOUSLY sucks up all the doggie hair, I LOVE IT!!

BEAUTIFUL!!Even though it is quite BLUSTERY, it was 47 degrees at 6am!!

Fabric Shopping!

FUN, FUN, FUN!!

You have to LOVE fabric shopping, right?? Especially when you find LOVELY fabric and it’s on SALE!!

John’s Nook!

THE COOLEST!!The Nook Color was John’s Christmas present, I REALLY should have asked for one!! But anyway, I love that he can read and NOT have the light on in bed and that it plays ambient noise, last night was wind! I can’t sleep when it’s dead quiet and John doesn’t like the TV, so the ambient noise is PERFECT!!

Dumbo!

LOVE!!Dumbo was on the Disney Channel this morning, so I HAD TO WATCH!! I collect elephants and have a few different Dumbo’s… LOVE HIM!!

‘Cause that’s my fun day!!” Today is going to be a BUSY day, so I may need to ERECT the above sign out front!! LOL

I BAKED some COOKIES last night…

PEANUT BUTTER!! Try not to die of shock, my family almost did!! I CONFESS, I made them (from scratch) knowing Kate doesn’t like PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES, and thinking John doesn’t like them either!! I was right with Kate, but John likes them… COOKIE MONSTER!! Thought I was going to have them all to myself!!

My Cool New Photo Frame!

LOVING my NEW FRAME!!

I LOVE pictures, but I am seriously running out of room for frames and always have a hard time taking older ones down to put up newer pictures!! So, for Christmas, John got me a handy dandy digital photo frame!! I LOVE IT!! It has a little remote and says I can load 2,500 photos!! You can set it up to display photos however you like, I have it set up as a slide show!!

HOLY SMOKES…

and it is ONLY Monday night… NOT a good sign, NOT a good sign at all!!

Saturday night was a SPECIAL NIGHT…Brian’s 50th Birthday!! Brian is my daughter Brittney’s dad and Kate’s godfather. EVERYONE was there, we all had SO much FUN and Brian was SO SURPRISED!! Actually, he was SHOCKED by the SURPRISE, it was PRICELESS!! Brian’s wife Cari and Brittney planned the party, THANK YOU two for all of the FUN!!

Sunday, Sunday was football and my beloved San Francisco 49’ers lost. NOT a happy camper, but happy that after many years they are back to playing some GOOD football!!

Today Kate and I went paint shopping for her bedroom…

The darker, “True Romance,” is for her walls and the lighter, “Velvet Crest,” is for her ceiling. Kate LOVES PURPLE!! Can you tell? So, that means I will be spending the week prepping her room to paint this weekend… OH JOY!! LOL Actually, I really like painting, so it won’t be so bad! Then on to the sewing with all of the PURPLE fabrics that we have collected, FUN!!

So, that was my weekend in a nutshell!!

Five things that made my week FABULOUS…

Snow!

“It’s SNOWING, it’s SNOWING!”

We were singing and doing the HAPPY SNOW DANCE on Tuesday night…Gotta LOVE John’s COOL fleece shorts over the long underwear and slippers look!!

And even though the school was opening 2 hours late, Kate had a mom imposed “snow day!” Because…

The sidewalks were so “slickery!” Since we rarely get snow, no one owns a snow shovel, so the sidewalks are CRAZY!!
Any snow plows the city does have concentrate on the west side of town, so the streets out here were a MESS!
Her high school is up the hill from here and while I am OK with my driving skills, the thought of Oregon drivers and teens behind the wheel in the snow SCARES me!! So, what makes them think I am going to put my kid on a school bus with no seat belts on snowy icy roads??
And… I am just COOL like that!! LOL

And it was GOOD…John and Kate said so!!

Pretty CUTE!! While I do LOVE the EXPENSIVE Essie and OPI nail polishes, I have a hard time paying $8.00+ for nail polish!! I have yet to learn to wear rubber gloves, so my nails take a beating and polish, no matter the price, doesn’t last long. So, I found this Vintage Gray from Petites Color Fever, I think I paid $2.99 for it on sale! Of course I had to add sparkles and a top coat, looks kinda “wintery” and has lasted a WEEK!! NO gloves or pampering!!

Because then MAYBE I could try the SLEEP thing again!! Nothing like starting the week on no sleep!! ARG, has anyone ever died from INSOMNIA? Because it is KILLING me!!

Had a pretty good weekend… some football, some shopping and some AWESOME chili last night courtesy of “The Chef!” Seriously ROCKS to have a husband that LOVES to cook and is SO DARNED good at whipping up YUMMINESS!!

BUT, on the BRIGHT SIDE of the INSOMNIA train, I have discovered the COOLEST blog… Beverly is refreshingly quirky and so much fun!! Flamingo Toes just an ENJOYABLE place to be!! She has AMAZING tutorials for jewelry, home décor, clothes and accessories, recipes the list is ASTONISHING!! She also does a super COOL link party called Think Pink Sundays and a FABULOUS feature post titled Crush of the Week…

with TONS of EXTRAORDINARY handmade goodness!!

I have only been following Flaming Toes for a little more than a week and am ADDICTED!! Beverly is INSPIRING, not only are her creations LOVELY, but she shares such MARVELOUS blogs and shops!! It’s 2012 and I’m Back!

Well, I think the HOLIDAY MADNESS is FINALLY OVER!!

I think I just had the MOST EXCITING week of my LIFE!!

Brittney and Ryan are ENGAGED!!YAY!! I am SO HAPPY!! Ryan proposed on Christmas Eve and Britt said, “YES!!” They haven’t set a date yet, but I am just so, so EXCITED!! Brittney is one LUCKY girl, Ryan is an INCREDIBLE guy!! I am going to be the BEST mother-in-law EVER!! I couldn't have picked a more WONDERFUL man for Britt if I had made him myself!!

Then yesterday was the BIG GAME…And the DUCKS were READY for BATTLE…It was an AWESOME game!! The Wisconsin Badgers and DUCKS went back and forth, enough to almost give this DUCK fan a heart attack!!And in the end, it was the DUCKS 45 - Badgers 38!! WAHOO!!

The Oregon DUCKS are the 2012 ROSE BOWL CHAMPIONS!!

So, I hope your Tuesday is as TERRIFIC as mine!!

Christmas has Finally arrived . . .

I FINALLY got all of the Christmas decorations up!!

I was having a REALLY hard time getting into the SPIRIT this year, not sure why, but it FINALLY did arrive and my family for one is THANKFUL!!

My CRAFTY mom-in-law made the AWESOME Santa Wreath and Nativity! My Grandma Mallory made the BEAUTIFUL Christmas Tree, she had a whole ceramic studio in her basement!!

I knitted Kate’s Snowman Stocking and John’s Tree Stocking, my Granny Goose knitted my Mushie Stocking when I was a kid!! Brittney and I painted the Snowy Tree and made the paper chains one year during a power outage!!

And of course there is the ELVIS ornament…I LOVE THE KING!! One year I WILL have an ALL ELVIS tree!!

So GLAD I FINALLY found the Christmas SPIRIT!! It is so much fun pulling EVERYTHING out and remembering the STORIES and SPECIAL PEOPLE behind all of my TREASURES!!

Yep, it’s a Monday…Monday’s just seem to happen… no matter how much I try to avoid them!

It has been COLD and FOGGY here in Portland… no rain, just FOG! FREEZING FOG! So, the CHILLY weather has put me in a knitting kind of mood…

I started with the Lara's Cowl Knitting Pattern…

I did have to alter the pattern a bit because it was GINORMOUS, and I knit tight!! The above cowl is acrylic yarn, but I did order some AWESOME hand dyed merino wool from Hodgepodge Fiber Art to make gifts for Christmas…

And let me tell you, Kimberly’s yarn ROCKS!! Super soft and yummy, and the shipping was really quick!

Next I tried the Play It Cool Neckwarmer…

In the University of Oregon Duck colors and then one in a seed stitch…If you are in the Gresham area there is an AWESOME shop, Andersen Fiber Works!! I picked up the yarn below called Optim there…OH MY GOSH!! Optim is a superfine merino that has gone through a straightening process giving it a lower micron count similar to cashmere!! It is BEYOND SOFT and LUSH!! You can buy the Optim in a kit which comes with the Lush neckwarmer pattern or you can buy a skein in top form and strip it yourself!! I could go on and on about Andersen Fiber Works and the LOVELY owner Jen… LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this shop!!

Then I took the MAJOR dive into Moebius Knitting, Cashmere Moebius Cowl by Cat Bordhi…

I was frightened to say the least, Moebius Knitting is knitting in the round with a twist and Cat even came up with a Moebius Cast On!! You are knitting in the round, but you are knitting in the middle!! Sounds complicated, but I swear if I can do it ANYONE can!! Though for my first Moebius Cowl I didn’t use cashmere, and since it’s winter I used a thicker wool/acrylic yarn…I am pretty happy with my results!! I also made it smaller, because it is a gift for a toothpick sized girl!

So, then I wanted to expand my new SKILLS and make an Infinity Scarf!! With the Moebius Method you can get the twist and no grafting the ends together!! WAHOO!! Good for me, because I have never quite mastered the kitchener stitch!!

Isn’t it GREAT?! I am ALMOST done just FOUR more rows to go, granted FOUR rows of 360 stitches….

I am making mine a bit more “wintery” a BEAUTIFUL hand dyed super wash sport weight yarn called Clutch, from Andersen Fiber Works, and a worsted black super wash wool! The next one is going to be out of a hand dyed Blueface Leicester wool from Dicentra Designs, below…I bought this SUPER SOFT YUMMINESS at Andersen Fiber Works too!!

YIKES!! I better go get BUSY!! Need to finish up my projects and today is FINALLY the day I am going to drag out all of the Christmas decorations!! I have been slacking on the decorating thing!!

Three things that made my week FABULOUS…

OK, there are usually five, but this week I only conjured up enough energy to do three…

Kate the Nurse!

I was feeling a bit funky the last few days, but Kate came to my rescue!!Kate is just one of those people that just make you happy!! It’s impossible not to feel her spirit and her love when she’s around!! She would text me from school to make sure I was OK and when she got home took my temperature and made sure I had water and of course LOVE!!

Just a Note!

This TOTALLY made my day…I knitted a hat for Kate to give a girl at school for her birthday, nothing fancy. Yesterday when Kate got home she gave me a note from Emily, her simple act of taking the time to say thank you really touched me and made my day!!

Christmas Music!

Yep, it’s “THAT” time of year…{Free Christmas Printable from The Bonjour Family Blog}

Kate CANNOT seem to help herself, EVERY time we get in the car she turns the radio to the local station playing all Christmas music!! Kate bouncing and singing along at the top of her lungs is INFECTIOUS!! I can’t help joining in!!

So, it was a weekend of HIGHS and LOWS…

Friday night Kate had her first high school choir concert, a definite HIGH!! They did a Broadway Review and it was FUN! Kate had been at practices for HOURS after school for 2 weeks!! I did take pictures, none of which turned out!!

I also finished up Brittney’s DUCKS hat for the game on Saturday…

Sunday was looking up…

TONY STEWART is the NASCAR 20011 SPRINT CUP CHAMPION!!WAHOO!! What an AMAZING race!! It came down to a head to head battle with points leader Carl Edwards. “Smoke” had to win the race to tie Edwards and the tie breaker was in Tony’s favor!! It was a nail biter… DEFINITELY SAVED my weekend!! CONGRATS to my favorite NASCAR man, “SMOKE!!”

During all of the football and NASCAR, I finished a couple of hats…

Not the best picture, but they are CUTE!! The black and gray is for my Lillie Bug and the orange one is for her mom, my BFF, Lori!!

“Just Another Manic Monday . . .”

My new MANTRA…

So, I will be repeating this in my head and out loud!! Thinking I should print it out and put it all over, anywhere I might see it!!

Last week ended up being a TOTAL disaster!! My friend’s husband had a medical emergency and I spent the week at OHSU with her. It was a rollercoaster to say the least… up and down and all around is the only way to describe what happened. My friends husband is OK for now, but there is a long road ahead.

Anyhow, I guess what I am trying to get at is I got absolutely NO sewing done! But, in the grand scheme of things it hardly felt important and there is nowhere else I would have been, than with my friend and her family.

But, there is NO REST for the weary and the Holiday season is upon us, time to stock the By Your Side Etsy Shop!! I will be SEWING like a MAD WOMAN!! Well, AFTER I go out to lunch with my eldest, Brittney!! Really need some BIG GIRL time and lets just say, what is IMPORTANT was put into PERSPECTVE for me last week, GLARINGLY!!

Five things that made my week FABULOUS…

My Blankey!

COZINESS… It’s that time of year, when it’s getting a bit chilly!! Time to get out my FAVORITE blankey… my Granny Goose made this for me when I was little, and I LOVE getting all wrapped up in it!!

Goldenwood Soap!

YUMMY GOODNESS!!OH BOY, I am IN LOVE with Goldenwood Soaps Candle Melts!! We got a bunch of them last week at the Gresham Farmer’s Market and they ROCK!! They have WONDERFUL soaps and lotions too!! I am HOOKED on the California Orange Candle Melt and the Cranberry Spritzer Candle Melt at the moment, the best part is they have an online store, so I can get them all year long!! All of their Candle Melts are on SALE through OCT. 31st!!

My Own Brain Power!

Have you ever said something and known the moment it left your mouth you were an idiot?? Monday night during the 11pm news they were showing pictures and talking about how the Northern Light would be visible in our area. I was SO EXCITED!! John has seen them SEVERAL times while out at sea... I NEVER have.

So, I was preparing myself to go out and see if I could see them, while getting all bundled up and on my way out the door I asked John...

"OK, so once I am out there, in which direction do I look to see the Northern Lights??" REALLY??

BRILLIANT eh?? And after that profound question, I couldn't see them... and YES, I was looking NORTH!!

It has become APPARENT that I have a PROBLEM…

Went fabric shopping yesterday and am quite PLEASED with my SPOILS!! I DID NOT pay FULL PRICE for ANYTHING!! WAHOO!!

I am not usually a big fan of the kiddie novelty prints, but these caught my eye and I think they will make ADORABLE Itty Bitty Brittney Bags…The SUPER CUTE Scotties on the left are Robert Kaufman’s Urban Zoologie, Black and White Scotties on Red with White Polka Dots on Black. And I am just SMITTEN with the MITTENS on the right and the light blue reminds me of SNOW!! LOVING this fabric, on the bottom, "CHRISTMASY" without being TOO MUCH!!

For some REASON I haven’t quite figured out yet, I have noticed I don’t do a lot of Fall/Winter colored fabrics. Odd since my home is decorated in browns, taupes, greens and plumb!! So, I saw this and it stood out as a Michele Handbag in my mind…

Belinda Wave and Belinda Circles in Black, Brown, Gray and Taupe. It’s kind of “Winterish,” isn’t it??

Another COLOR that I have had to make myself more CONSCIOUS of is RED!! Not sure why, maybe it’s the redhead’s shouldn’t wear red myth!! The PROBLEM now is, I can't decide a lil' Miss M Handbag, Michele Handbag or a Tiny t Purse?? HELP!!

One of my FAVORITE prints, on the left, in all of it’s colorways is this Michael Miller - Lil Plain Jane - White and Red Daisies on Black and Michael Miller - Ta Dot - White on Red!! I LOVE this ZESTY print on the right from Michael Miller - Zesty Zinnia – Black, White and Red and Michael Miller - Ta Dot - White on Red!!

GROOVE-A-LICIOUS!! COOL RETRO prints!! What do you think... small (lil’ Miss M on the left) or large (Michele on the right) handbag??

I am IN LOVE with these prints, Going on Thirty - Black, Pink and Lime and Going on Thirty - Black, Aqua and Lime both paired with Michael Miller’s - Ta Dot - White on Black.

I am ALWAYS attracted to what my family calls “HIPPIE” fabric!! Batiks or natural type fabrics are IMPOSSIBLE for me to pass up!! Hence, the Topanga Sling Bag and the fabrics I choose to make them…SEW EXCITED that I found some of this DISCONTINUED fabric!! On the left is Timeless Treasures - Nature - Green Globes on Cream and Essentials in Green Swirl Marble. Being that I LOVE batiks and PURPLE is my FAVORITE color, I was equally THRILLED to find this Swirl Batik - Black with Purple, Blue and Aqua and Purple Marble Batik!!

Sew… it was a BUSY, BUSY day!!
